Luxury Corset Construction

LuxeFlesh Luxury Corsets are made to fit the highest standard of quality, design, and fit. We have spent more than 17 years perfecting patterns, constructions techniques, and sourcing only the finest materials worldwide. We have constructed thousands of units, giving us the experience needed to build truly luxurious garments. Each corset is carefully handmade, right here in Toronto and always will be! Some of the many materials and techniques that are used to produce every luxury corset include:

Lining – All LuxeFlesh Corsets Toronto are lined in 100% cotton coutil, a very strong fabric made specifically for corsets.

Fabrics – We use only the finest fabrics from around the world. Heavy-weight satins, Silk brocades, thick PVCs and smooth leathers are some of the many fabric options to choose from.

Boning – Only quality steel boning is used in every LuxeFlesh luxury corset. Strong, flat steel boning, sourced from Germany reinforces the front and back of each corset. Flexible, form shaping spiral boning, made in the USA, is used throughout the body of the corset.

Front Busk – All of our quality steel busks, used to close the front of each corset, are imported from Germany.

3 Layer Construction – Every LuxeFlesh corset is constructed with 3 durable layers. The outer fabric is fused with a high quality cotton interfacing, which adds extra strength and makes for a smoother finished garment. All corsets are fully lined with durable cotton coutil. Outer boning channels are also fused with interfacing, giving a smooth even finish.

Waist Tape – LuxeFlesh corsets include a carefully placed twill tape, that runs around the waist inside the corset. Most of the stress of a corset is at the waist, this tape acts as a sturdy reinforcement.

Thread – All LuxeFlesh luxury corsets are sewn with super strength thread. This makes for ultra strong seams.

Eyelets – Every LuxeFlesh corset laces up in the back. We use only strong, nickel plated brass, 2 part eyelets, imported from the USA.

Lacing – Each corset is laced in the back with 8 yards of durable, flat, nylon cord.

Garters – All LuxeFlesh corsets include a set of 3/4″ satin elastic garters, made only with metal parts.

Fine materials, quality workmanship and years of refinement are combined to make a truly authentic corset. A LuxeFlesh corset will give any body type a flattering shape and will last for years of enjoyment.

Corset Sizing Explained

This is a very important part of your order. Please read carefully and contact us should you have any questions.

There are three different options when ordering a LuxeFlesh corset:

1.Made to Order – All made to order LuxeFlesh Luxury Corsets are labeled according to waist size; in inches, sizes 20 – 38. Should you require a larger size, please see the made to measure section below. The labeled waist size is the finished size of the corset, this is why it is very important to measure your waist size properly. For the casual wearer, your corset waist size will be 3-4 inches smaller than your natural waist size. For the more experienced wearer who may desire a greater waist reduction, we recommend a made to measure or bespoke corset. Before ordering your made to order corset, please follow our Made to Order Measuring Guide to determine if a standard sized corset is going to fit. Corsets do have a bit of leeway, due to the lace-up back. If your measurements are close to a specific size but do not match exactly, that size may still work fine for you. The chart simply shows the exact measurements that the pattern has been designed around, which are average measurements. If you are unsure, please contact us with your measurements and we will help you determine whether or not a standard size will work for you.

2. Made to Measure – LuxeFlesh luxury corsets are designed to be comfortable, while still giving you the shape you are looking for. Our corsets are designed to give greater compression to the waist and less compression to the ribs and hips. This is why it is important to wear the proper size. There is more to buying a proper corset than just waist size! This is why some people will require custom, made to measure sizing. If you have already measured yourself according to our made to order measuring guide and have determined that made to order corset may not be the right fit, or if you would simply like to have your corset made to your exact measurements, please follow our Made to Measure Measuring Guide. A LuxeFlesh made to measure corset uses your exact measurements to first create a custom pattern, then a mock-up to test the pattern, then the final corset is made once we are satisfied that it will fit you perfectly.

3. Bespoke – A LuxeFlesh bespoke corset is designed completely to your specifications and measurements. Instead of choosing an existing LuxeFlesh style, we will work with you to create a completely unique design, made just for you. We will work with you to design the pattern, choose fabrics, and decide on design details. Then, we follow the same process as made to measure, drafting a pattern to your measurements, creating and testing a mock-up for fit, then building the final corset once the design and fit process is complete.

All three options are discussed in more detail below.

Size Chart

This size chart shows the natural measurements, in inches that correspond with each size. Please match your measurements to those on the chart to determine your corset size.

Made to Order Measuring Guide

We want you to love your corset! This is why we put so much care into making the best product possible. It is critical that your corset fit properly, so that you are comfortable and will experience years of enjoyment. There is more to finding the right size than just measuring your waist. This is why it is important to follow our measuring guide carefully.

How to measure yourself to determine your corset size:

You will need a fabric measuring tape and something to tie around your waist, such as a string or a thin belt, no wider than ¾”. If possible, have a friend help you with your measurements; or have yourself measured by a professional at a dress shop or bra fitting shop.

Please complete each measurement at least twice, just to be sure. Wear something thin, not too tight or too loose fitting, such as a tank top and leggings. If you normally wear a bra, wear a light, unpadded bra only. If you are measuring yourself, be sure to watch yourself carefully in a mirror. When completing the horizontal measurements, it is very important that you always keep the measuring tape level around your body. Allowing the measuring tape to droop will result in an inaccurate measurement. When measuring, pull the tape just enough so that the tape does not droop; but not so hard that the tape is cutting into your skin. Write your measurements down as you go.

Please refer to the 2 Made to Order Measurement Guide diagrams and measure in the following order:

1. Bust – Keeping the measuring tape level all the way around, measure the largest point of your bust, across the nipples. Not applicable if you are purchasing an Underbust or Waist Cincher style.

2. Under Bust – Measure straight around your ribcage, just under your bust.

3. Waist – Measure straight around the smallest part of your waist, approximately 1” up from your navel.

At this point, please tie the string or buckle the belt around your waist, at the same place that was just measured. Make sure that it is snug and level all the way around.

4. High Hip – Measure from your waist (marked with your string or belt), down 4”. Then measure straight around, again keeping your measuring tape level.

5. Hip – Measure straight around your hips, where your hips are the fullest. This will be approximately 8” down from your waist.

6. Under Bust to Waist – Measure from right under your bust, down to your waist. Not necessary for Over Bust styles.

7. Bust to Waist  Measure from your nipple, down to your waist. Not necessary for Under Bust styles.

8. Waist to Hip Bone – Measure from your waist, down to the top of your hip bone (the point at which it protrudes the most).

Now that you have your measurements, please refer to the size chart.

First find your waist size, to determine your corset size. Then check the corresponding Bust, Under Bust, Upper Hip and Hip measurements that are listed with your corset waist size, on the measurement chart. Check the Nipple to Waist, Under Bust to Waist, and Waist to Hip Bone measurements, these measurements will help determine whether or not the length of the corset will be suitable for you. If your measurements do not match, please contact us for assistance. Corsets do have some leeway, due to the back lace-up closure. If your measurements are close to a certain size but do not match exactly, that size may still work for you. The size chart simply illustrates the exact measurements that the pattern is designed around. Our patterns are based on average sizes, to fit the largest portion of the population as possible.

If you are unsure about your size, please contact us and submit your measurements. We will help you determine whether or not a standard size will work for you. If a standard size is not appropriate for you, you may want to order a made to measure corset.

Made to Measure & Bespoke Measuring Guide

Although our standard size corsets are designed to fit as many people as possible, we are all unique and many people will require or want made to measure sizing. Ordering a made to measure corset will ensure that your corset fits you absolutely perfectly. If you are looking for a male corset, are transgender or a cross dresser, you will also require a made to measure corset. Please follow our made to measure corset measuring guide carefully and always measure at least twice! Before processing your order, your measurements will be checked by us and confirmed with you. If any of your measurements appear out of the ordinary, we will discuss them with you before proceeding.

Understanding LuxeFlesh Boning Options

All LuxeFlesh Luxury Corsets include boning casings sewn to the corset, which enclose each piece of boning. Casings can be made in two different ways. The casing can be sewn to the inside of the corset made from matching Coutil lining, with only the stitch lines visible from the outside. Alternatively, boning casings can be sewn to the outside of the corset, in a contrasting satin. In either case, at least 3 layers of heavy fabric sit between the steel boning and your body.

If you would like internal boning casings, with just the stitch lines visible from the outside, please select “Standard Boning”

If you would like external, contrast satin boning casings, please select “Contrast Boning” on the order form. The contrast boning will match your corset trim.

If you would like to add this detail to your corset, please choose “Contrast Busk & Grommet Panels” on the order form.

Understanding LuxeFlesh Privacy Panels

Any LuxeFlesh Luxury Corset can be made to include a matching Privacy Panel. This is a panel that sits underneath the lacing, at the back of the corset. It both protects your skin from the lacing and hides the “back cleavage” that can occur when the corset is tightened around the body.

It also gives a finished look to the garment. The Privacy Panel is made from the same fabric as the corset and is fully lined with Coutil. It also includes 3 pieces of flat, spring steel boning across the width, to keep it rigid while tightening. If you would like a Privacy Panel, please select “Privacy Panel” on the order form.

Privacy Panels start at $20.

FAQs

General Corset Information
Ordering Information

How do I care for my corset?

All LuxeFlesh luxury corsets require dry cleaning, never wash your corset. Leather corsets should always be cleaned by a leather professional.

Always allow your corset to air out after wearing, you can do this by placing your corset over the back of a chair.

Try to wear something underneath your corset whenever possible, to protect the lining from sweat and oils from your skin. The lining can be carefully wiped with a damp (never wet) cloth. Be sure to wring out the cloth well before wiping the lining. Do not allow any moisture to soak through to the outer fabric, as it can mark fabrics such as silk and satin.

How do I put on and lace up my corset?

Try to always have someone help you put on your corset. Carefully loosen the back lacing of your corset, enough to allow you to easily put the corset around yourself. If the corset is not loose enough, this can put stress on and even break the pins of the front busk.

Attach each hook of the busk, from bottom to top.

Carefully begin to tighten the corset lacing, starting at the bottom, slowly working up to the loop at the waist. Repeat this step, working from the top down to the waist. Repeat these steps carefuly as needed. Despite what you may have seen in movies, you should never yank on the lacing! This can damage the corset as well as cause discomfort to the wearer. Only tighten the corset to a point that is comfortable. Give your body a chance to adjust, then tighten the back more if needed. A new corset also needs time to “mold” to your body and your body needs a chance to get used to wearing a corset, especially if you have never worn one before. Take it slow and allow you and your corset time to adjust!

Tie the loops at the waist in a bow. Never tie the ends back around the corset. This can cause friction and damage to the outside of the corset.

Taking off your corset also requires the same amount of care. Always fully loosen your corset at the back, so that the corset is loose all the way around. Failing to fully loosen the laces can result in damage to the front busk. The busk should be easy to unhook at this point.

How do I take off my corset?

Your corset requires the same care to take it off, as it does to put it on. It is best to have someone help you with this process.

First, untie the lacing. Then, carefully loosen the lacing, working from the waist down to the bottom of the corset, repeating the same, from the waist to the top of the corset. Carefully repeat these steps as necessary, until the lacing is completely loosened and the corset is loose all the way around your body. Always make sure that the corset is loosened completely, failure to do so can result in damage to the front busk. The busk should now unhook easily.

Are corsets uncomfortable?

A well made corset should be tight, but not be painful and uncomfortable. Unlike corsets of lesser quality, LuxeFlesh corsets are designed specifically to compress most at the waist and less around the ribs and hips.

Our ready to wear corsets are designed to fit as many people as possible, but will not be the best option for everyone. Please see the “Standard Size Measurement Chart” to assess if a standard size corset matches your measurements. If not, a bespoke/custom corset may be the best option to ensure maximum comfort.

A new corset also needs time to “mold” to your body, the same way a new pair of shoes needs to be broken in. You will find that your corset becomes more comfortable as you wear it.

Do corsets stretch?

No. Our corsets are made from 3 layers of non-stretch, woven fabric. The outer fashion fabric is fused to a woven cotton interfacing, which is then lined with a strong  cotton Coutil, a strong, sturdy fabric made especially for corsets. Unlike stretchy body-shapers, this type of quality construction is how a LuxeFlesh corset offers substantial body shaping and waist reduction.

Although our corsets do not stretch, a new corset will “mold” to your body over time, as does a new pair of shoes.

How many inches can I reduce my waist?

We recommend a 3″-4″ waist reduction. Our ready to wear corsets are designed for this amount of reduction. If you an experienced wearer and desire a larger reduction, we recommend a Custom/Bespoke Sized Corset.

We recommend that you work up to this reduction with your new corset. You need to allow your body to get accustomed to wearing a corset. Only tighten to a point that is tight, but never uncomfortable. You may tighten your corset more as you become accustomed to it.

If I want a larger waist reduction, can I just order a smaller size?

No. All LuxeFlesh ready to wear corsets are designed to reduce the waist 3″-4″, compressing mostly at the waist and less at the ribs and hips. This is what allows for more comfort and allows you to breathe. Our patterns are designed around the waist size, which is relative to the bust, ribs, and hips. Ordering a smaller waist size than is recommended according to our Size Chart, will result in a corset that is too small around the bust, ribs, and hips and will therefore not fit properly. If you are an experienced wearer only and require a larger waist reduction, a made to measure corset is a better option.

Where are LuxeFlesh corsets made?

Every LuxeFlesh corset is made to order in our Toronto, Canada studio. This allows us tight quality control throughout the entire manufacturing process. It also allows you the flexibility to build your own corset, with countless options to choose from.

Can you explain the cost of a LuxeFlesh corset?

LuxeFlesh luxury corsets are just that, luxury corsets. There are several reasons why our corsets cost what they do and why they are not just a purchase, but an investment.

We use the finest materials available and construct our handmade corsets to the highest standards. Our corsets offer real body shaping and waist reduction and are made to last. Learn more about our Luxury Construction Details.

We have worked for more than 17 years, perfecting patterns, manufacturing techniques, and sourcing the finest materials from around the world.

All LuxeFlesh corsets are made by hand, in our studio, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. This allows us tight control over ever aspect of the manufacturing process.

We do not use slave labour. Our employees are paid a living wage and enjoy a comfortable work environment.

What kind of boning do you use?

We only use the highest quality steel boning, imported from Germany and the USA. Rigid, flat steel boning is used at the front and back of the corset, to keep those areas rigid and flat. Flexible, durable, spiral steel boning is used throughout the body of the corset, to give proper shaping while remaining comfortable. See Luxury Corset Construction for more details about what makes a LuxeFlesh luxury corset so special.

Do you make made to measure corsets?

Do you make bespoke corsets?

Yes, we will work with you to design a completely unique corset to your design and measurement specifications. Please see Ordering a Bespoke Corset for more information.

What does "made to order" mean?

Made to order is a common fashion industry term, meaning a garment is manufactured after it is ordered. Our made to order corsets are made from patterns to fit the general public, as opposed to a custom pattern made for a specific individual.

We use the term “made to order” for our corsets that are made from standard sized patterns, in sizes 20-38. Our made to order corset patterns are made to fit much of the general population, but will not necessarily fit everyone. This is why we offer “made to measure” and “bespoke” options. These corsets are made to your specific body measurements.

Each made to order corset is constructed after it is ordered. Although we use a standard sized pattern, you still have a vast range of custom options to choose from. Because we are using standard patterns, a LuxeFlesh made to order corset is the most economical option. You can check our Made to Order Measuring Guide to see if a made to order corset will work for you. To order a made to order corset, please see Ordering a Made to Order Corset.

What does "made to measure" mean?

A made to measure garment is one that is made to your specific measurements. Your measurements are used to draft a new pattern, which is used to make a “mock up” or “muslin”, which is test corset. This allows us to test the fit and make necessary changes, before making the final corset.

There a few reasons for ordering a made to measure corset over a ready to wear corset. The most common is that a ready to wear corset is according to your measurements, see the Ready to Wear Measuring Guide to see if our standard sizes will work for you. Another common reason is that either a longer or shorter corset is desired. Some customers just want to be sure that their corset is going to fit perfectly. Please see Ordering a Made to Measure Corset for more information.

What does "bespoke" mean?

The term bespoke means made to order. At LuxeFlesh, we use “bespoke” to describe our highest level of customization. Our “bespoke” corsets differ from “made to measure” in that bespoke corsets can be designed completely from scratch. We work with you to design the style, choose the fabric, and choose design details. It is a completely custom corset. Please see Ordering a Bespoke Corset for more information.

What are the differences between "made to order", "made to measure", and "bespoke" corsets?

At LuxeFlesh, we offer three different levels of customization. Therefore, we use the terms “made to order”, “made to measure”, and “bespoke” to differentiate between the three.

A made to order corset is one made from a standard sized pattern and a style chosen from our Classic Collection. You can choose many options to customize your made to order corset, but these are made according to standard sizes. A made to order corset is the most economical choice. Please see Ordering a Made to Order Corset for more information.

A made to measure corset is also one chosen from our Classic Collection, with the same custom options, but made to your specific measurements. We draft a new pattern according to your measurements and make a mock up, which is essentially a test corset. We send you this mock up to test the fit and make any necessary changes, before making your final corset. There are many reasons to choose a made to measure corset – if a made to order corset does not fit to your measurements, a longer or shorter corset is needed, or a truly custom fit is desired. The price for a made to measure corset is $120 CAD, added to the total cost of the same made to order corset. This cost covers the extra cost to draft a custom pattern, make the mock-up, and ship the mock-up to you (within Canada and the USA). Please see Ordering a Made to Measure Corset for more information.

A bespoke corset is a completely customized corset. We work with you to design a unique corset, designing the style, choosing the fabric, and choosing design details. You may choose to use a Classic Collection Corset as a starting point or we may design a style that is completely different from what we offer. A bespoke corset is a longer process, as we work with you to create a design, then follow the same fitting process as with the made to measure option. Prices for bespoke corsets start at $650 for a simple design, up to several thousand dollars for complex designs with hand sewing, Swarovski Crystals, or bead work. Please see Ordering a Bespoke Corset for more information.

If you have a particular fabric that you would like to have made into a corset, please contact us to discuss it. We may require you to send us a sample of the fabric to assess its suitability.

Can I order a corset with a custom style or design?
